14 inch, hand carved, hand tooled. Pin Oak wood Magic wand, with working joints. This is a concept piece based on Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio. I was inspired by the rustic, lanky, whittled look of his stop motion classic story, that I wanted to bring a finger into creation. I chose Pin Oak for obvious reasons. Most notably the pun of the name.. Pin Oakio. and also, how traditional the grain of the wood looks and feels. I used wire nails for the joints first, but thought they looked shoddy. I picked up some hand cut copper nails, and fashioned them into rivets, which finish the piece nicely!

Oak is one of the more powerful, sacred woods. its leans towards being masculine, and is of the Earth element, although I’ve seen it attributed to fire and lightning as well. Its use is varied, with protection defense and prosperity at the forefront, it’s also good for scrying and divination. Known as the wizard wood, it’s a calm, grounded, and centered wood that is good for beginners.
